:: Biography ::
Woody Woodmansey
Woody's
first introduction to the world of drumming was at the age of 5, a
drum bought by his uncle. He didn't really notice music again until
he was about 15 years old. Together with some of his school mates
they formed their own band 'The Mutations'! A perfect name, considering!
The next couple of years were spent practising and doing gigs, mainly
pubs, clubs and church halls. The music was early R&B, Bo Diddley,
Smoke Stack Lightening, Dust my Broom etc.
As with many great bands, the Mutations split up, (musical differences!)
and Woody joined another local band called 'Roadrunners'. Again they
did R&B, but also progressive rock (as it was known then), Cream,
Jeff Beck, Free, The Who etc.
His drumming influences were Mitch Mitchell, Ginger Baker, Keith
Moon, Sandy Nelson & John Bonham.
One of the best local bands at this time were a band called 'The
Rats' led by a lad from Hull, Mick Ronson, a brilliant guitarist.
They played mostly Hendrix, Zeppelin, Beck, Cream and blues stuff.
So Woody became a 'Rat'. Gigs were better, usually supporting major
acts that played in the area. Good memories!
In 1969, Mick left Hull to join David Bowie in London. A short time
later Bowie phoned and said 'Mick says you're a great drummer, I want
you to come and join us'.
So he started, at first as David Bowie and Hype, later as the Spiders
from Mars. They worked hard and played hard, brilliant times with
recording, tours, TV and radio. Toured the world
.joined by other
musicians along the way like Lou Reed, Jeff Beck etc. Albums recorded
over the 5 yrs with Bowie included 'Man Who Sold the World', 'Hunky
Dory', 'Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars' and 'Aladdin Sane'.
After this period he recorded a 'Spiders' album with the other half
of the Bowie rhythm section, Trevor Bolder and a couple of guys from
Newcastle.
Since then, there have been numerous musical adventures including
one -off projects with Dexys Midnight Runners, Paul McCartney, Edgar
Winter, Billy Sheehan (Mr Big) etc.
He's done extensive live work, including working with Art Garfunkel
and legendary keyboard player, Nicky Hopkins. Toured UK and Europe,
Japan with this line up. Also recorded and toured with 'Cybernauts'
(Joe Elliot, Phil Collen of Def Leppard and Trevor Bolder).
Played with Hossam Ramsey & the Masters of Percussion.
Recently finished an album called 'Redhanded' with Gillian Glover
(dad is Roger Glover, Deep Purple), released May 2007 with touring,
media etc.
Been doing this drum ensemble with two of his sons for a year or
two and it's proved so popular they've now done an album totally featuring
drums, percussion etc. Nick and Dan are both great drummers in their
own right!

Dan Woodmansey
He
got in to drumming at the age of 9.
As well as expanding his drumming and percussion skills, Dan started
creating his own tracks and it was clear he definitely had a talent
to produce great music. His influences in music range from Zeppelin,
Hendrix to DJ Krush, Red Snapper, DJ Shadow, Hip Hop, Drum and Bass
etc.
For the last few years Dan has been out doing DJ sets producing his
own music as well as formerly drumming in an Indie band called 'A
Million Little Pieces', gigging mainly in London and the south-east
of England.
3-D was formed after the 3 drummers were asked if they would
perform together during DJ sets in a London club on Regent Street.
This evolved in to working out their own pieces to perform during
the night. This in turn led to the idea of doing an album. It has
turned in to an eclectic mix of music fusion due to their own individual
tastes, which range from funk, tribal, drum and bass, hip hop, jazz,
rock, Egyptian and Latin, etc. It is definitely something different
and exciting.
